Quality View Mode Now Available for GE CL5 Precision Thickness Gauge

Billerica, MA, USA – October 22, 2007 – GE Inspection Technologies announces Quality View Mode for the CL5 Precision Thickness Gauge.  Quality View Mode is a software option that configures the CL5 to more quickly capture and communicate inspection data to Microsoft Excel or a third party quality analysis software program for increased productivity through data management and process control. Thlis Quality View Mode software is available with the purchase of the data recorder option for all current and future CL5 users.

The CL5 is used in the aerospace, automotive, oil & gas, pharmaceutical and power generation industries, as both a quality control and production metrology tool. It can be used to spot check the thickness of incoming material on metal or plastic components, and to monitor mechanical shaping or fabrication operations by carrying out incoming, intermediate and final thickness measurements.

Quality View Mode is compatible with a wide range of contact and delay line transducers to quickly and easily make, capture and review more than 250 precision measurements on each individual workpiece.

The CL5 is a compact instrument used for precise thickness measurements of components of complex geometry that would often make them difficult to inspect with conventional gauges. An industry first, Quality View Mode comes with bar graph display on both the measurement and review screens and this allows the operator to very quickly and easily review and re-capture multiple measurements if necessary.

Enhancing productivity is a key feature of the CL5, providing up to 50% gains in inspection productivity when employed by a practiced user. The fast measurement time makes the CL5 well suited for quality checks on a lean production line, with the added benefit of data capture and traceability. It is a rugged instrument designed to withstand a heavy industry workshop, foundry or mill environment.

Easy and flexible data management is provided through this option’s programmable data recorder using a standard 512MB or 1GB SD card. Data can be read by a standard SD card reader and downloaded to a PC for further analysis by incorporation within spreadsheets or for archiving. Data can also be downloaded directly from the CL5 to a PC via USB connectivity.
